Bowel cancer is one of the most common cancers in Australia, but when found early, it is highly treatable. Many people do not experience symptoms in the early stages, which is why regular screening is so important.
Australians aged 45 to 74 are eligible for a free bowel screening test every two years through the National Bowel Cancer Screening Program. The test is simple, can be done at home, and can help detect early signs of bowel cancer before symptoms appear.
Please speak with your GP if you notice any concerning symptoms, including blood in your stool, a persistent change in bowel habits, unexplained weight loss, abdominal pain, bloating, or ongoing fatigue. Do not wait for your next screening test if you have symptoms.
Early detection saves lives. If you have received your bowel screening kit, complete it as soon as possible, or speak with your GP about your bowel cancer risk and screening options
