Asthma is a common long-term lung condition that affects people of all ages. Around 2.8 million Australians, or about 11% of the population, are living with asthma. Symptoms may include coughing, wheezing, chest tightness and shortness of breath.
At Hill Medical, our GPs can help patients manage asthma by reviewing symptoms, checking inhaler technique, discussing preventer and reliever medications, identifying triggers, and preparing or updating an Asthma Action Plan.
Everyone with asthma should have a written Asthma Action Plan, even if their asthma is mild. An action plan helps patients recognise worsening symptoms and know what to do during a flare-up or asthma attack.
When to seek urgent help
Call 000 immediately if someone is having severe trouble breathing, is unable to speak normally, becomes confused or exhausted, has blue lips, is getting worse quickly, or is not improving with reliever medication.
